My name is Salsa and I am a high energy young dog with the sassiness of salsa. I am about 1 year old, current on my vaccinations, spayed and negative for heartworms. I am an 'alpha' dog and do not do well with other female dogs. I do not do well with young children and do not like cats. I am a German Shepherd and Rottweiler mix but am a medium size dog. Rescue Me ID: 16-03-21-00211Duece (male)

Rottweiler    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Male Dogs Only, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Needs Vaccinations

ADULT(s) ONLY HOME We are looking to home our male Rottweiler. He recently turned 4 on March 8th. Duece is a good dog and very loveable. He thrives for attention and loves on people when they visit. He sometimes thinks he's a lap dog and loves to snuggle with you on the couch and in bed. He gets along great with our 2 year old male Chihuahua/Papillon mix and they even share a bed together sometimes. They even play well regardless of the huge size difference. He also is very loveable with my 5 year old son and allows him to lay on him and will lay in bed with him. He will jump in bed with him in the morning and just lick his face and hands. ... (Read More) He is smart and knows how to lay and sit and 'go to the hallway' when we leave for the day. He greets us when we get home with excitement and his 'nub' wagging. However, we have had some incidences of Duece jumping and barking, growling, snapping with some of my son's high paced movements and running around that young children do. As well as he has gotten along with him I do not believe Duece should be in home with children as that is why we have decided to find a better home for him. Duece was raised with just my fianc̩ for 3 years. It was only the 2 of them. My son and I recently moved in back in June 2015. We have made the best we have with the situation but am very nervous something bad is going to happen as Duece doesn't understand children well and my 5 year old can't completely understand his boundaries with Duece as well. He is a very dominant dog. He will get in the trash and eat Kleenexes paper towel or whatever else he might find. Most times he eats the item before we can retrieve it or we will get a dog treat and feed it to him so he will drop the item. He did bite me one time as I was trying to get the piece of trash next to him away and he was protecting that item and my hand was in the way. He has a tendency to scratch at carpets and rugs as well. Especially when he is getting excited or laying down trying to get comfortable. He gets very possessive with water bottles and some dog toys. With this I mean if you get near him with these things he will growl and is best you stay away because he could snap at you. However some toys he will play tug-o-war with or fetch and drop them in your lap and want to play. It just depends on his attachment to the item. He is very protective at night. When we go to bed we have to lock our bedroom door because we are afraid my son with run in in the middle of the night. If that happens Duece growls, snarls, barks and one time bit my son. Did not break the skin but did nip him a bit on the hand. He does this because he is protecting whoever is in that bed. He has even done this with myself and my fianc̩ who has raised him. Its just this 'mode' he gets in. He also barks at the window with all traffic and people walking by and it is hard to get his attention back to get off the window. Usually get a treat and he will come. I am being completely honest on everything because Duece needs a special HOME WITHOUT CHIDLREN and can be respectful of some of his needs. We love him very much and can be a very loving dog and want him to go to a GREAT home. He can be a great dog for the right person/couple. Due to his high needs for his own safety and other people is the reason for the $300 adoption fee. We want to make sure he goes to a good home. Duece has never undergone any training but has been evaluated before which the trainer said he could benefit from training and may help with some of his behaviors. However, my son has become scared of him due to some recent barking and the bite and we have to put my son first. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-03-15-00594Moxie (female)

Rottweiler Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Most Cats
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Moxie - 7 year old female. Black and Tan Coonhound/Rottweiler ? mix. Approximately 50 lbs. Housetrained. Up to date on vaccinations, spayed and microchipped. Adoption fee $150.00 Moxie is such a sweet girl! She gets along with every dog and every person. She came to us in pretty rough shape and is still healing from a skin infection but has made such great strides! As you can tell by the pictures, she loves to play with sticks! Even though she's 7 years old, she still has a lot of play and spunk! Whoever adopts this good girl is going to be very lucky! Due to some food aggression issues (that are being worked on in her foster ... (Read More)home), we would recommend a home with children at least 12 years of age or older. Also because of her hound instincts and her love of running and playing outside, a fenced in yard is a must. (Less)

Rottweiler Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Chocolate is a sweet precious momma girl. She came to us from Save A Paw Safe Haven Rescue out of Kokomo, IN that was shutting down & closing its doors due to personal issues with the owners.. There is so much to tell about her. I feel for her everyday, only being able to imagine the hell this girl has been though. Upon arriving at HHH, Chocolate was a little underweight, she had lost 6 pounds since being spayed by the other group in December 2015, had thinning hair & loss along the dorsum and tail. She had gunky eyes, that watered often. We have taken Chocolate to see the vet and discovered that she does have low Thyroid levels, she has ... (Read More)been started on Thyroxine 8mg. and will most likely have to be on medication the rest of her life. We will know more of the outcome with her Thyroid and what to expect for the future with her when she returns to the vet on March 18, 2016 and has blood work done again to check her levels since being on her medication. Chocolate is also currently receiving medicated baths twice a week, but only has 3 baths left to get before being re evaluated in March for hair loss & thinning. We know its due to the Thyroid, but she also had dry, flake, yeasty smelling skin. We you meet Chocolate, she will never shy away from you, she would rather be right between your legs getting belly rubs and giving kissed. Chocolate was also used like a breeding wagon. Her teets do hand down low.Whatever past and story Chocolate had to tell she will never show or say as she has not let her past bring her down and she looks forward to everyday as a wonderful beginning to a new start in life. Chocolate is crate trained & house broke, good with all other dogs, doesn't care about cats, and is wonderful with children. Chocolate is 8 years old, a Rottweiler/ Shar Pei/Pit mix. She is is spayed, has current rabies, distemper combo, bordetella, heart worm tested negative, received heartworm prevention, and micro chipped. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-07-31-00501Rottie (male)

Rottweiler Mix    Age: Adult

Personality: Low Energy, Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Arthritis

My name is Rottie. I am seeking that special forever home with a very special guardian who wants to give just that kind of home to a deserving animal. I am about 6-7 years old, a medium-sized Black Labrador and Rottweiler mix neutered male with current vaccinations and a negative heartworm test. My medium length coat is a glistening black except on my legs which lighten to a brown with some speckling. I do have a little arthritis but it doesn't bother me too much most days at the moment. I am a shy and quiet dog that lacks some much needed self confidence. Therefore, I retreat to the back of my kennel when strangers ... (Read More)approach and I do not engage with these same people when out on a leash. There may have been past abuse issues or poor socialization with humans but this is only speculation. But, I have gotten accustomed to the shelter staff and do pretty well with them. I have been at this shelter for a very long time. The staff do the best they can but there are so many other dogs and limited space and I have become just one of the many. I really do need a home to call my own. An adult family only would be best and someone with dog experience and a lot of patience. I need time, space, understanding, some positive reinforcement work, and lots of love. Contact the shelter to ask any questions you might have about me or to make arrangements to come for a visit. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Rottweiler in Indiana
Rottweiler Dogs can make good pets in Indiana if they match your IifestyIe. The Rottweiler is a large breed herding and guard dog. Rottweilers are very stable and brave. This breed needs a firm, experienced handler from the very beginning. Rottweilers can be good family pets that are trustworthy with children and other pets if they are trained and socialized from an early age. If a Rottweiler is not treated properly it can become aggressive. Rottweilers need plenty of exercise and can run in open country without a leash. Rottweilers can live in an apartment or a home with a small yard if they get enough exercise.
