Rocky Hi! My name is Rocky! My owner dumped me and was brought into foster care. I am VERY shy and timid. I am learning that humans are okay. Once I have bonded with you and learn to trust you, we will be great friends. I am learning that indoor dog life is awesome. I love to hang out with my humans in the house or accompany you while you do chores on a fenced property. I would love a country home with a middle aged or just recently active, calm, patient, retired couple without breed, weight restrictions, children, cats or other dogs. Animal ID: A36040101Magpie (female)

Rottweiler Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Cats, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant

Magpie is an energetic gal. She is one you need to meet in person and outside of her kennel - She doesn't like being in her kennel. She does much better when she is walking around and away from the hub-bub and the noise of the kennel. She was introduced to our 'testing-pup' at the shelter to see how she does with other pups. She squared up to Sophia to show she is alpha- but when she realized Sophia is submissive and didn't really care - Magpie didn't really care that Sophia was there and walked around the play yard with her and they did good together. Magpie tried to smell cats, but did it so her feet were as far as possible from the crates ... (Read More)and she was reaching her head to them to get a sniff. She was looking at them like they were an alien species and wasn't sure if they were safe to be around. She was okay on a leash, and almost seemed like she was familiar with the concept. She gets a little stir crazy in the kennel and would do so much better in a home, where she gets daily play time. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-10-22-00214Archie (male)

Rottweiler Mix    Age: Young Puppy

Personality: Average Energy
Health: Neutered

Archie My name makes a bunch of scents, because Archie was a comic guy and the most loveable friendly guy in town, known as the red headed Romeo. Well, I might not have red hair, but I do have rusty red markings and being a good friend to everyone is my main gig. In matter of fact, I can make besties with any other dog from a 3 lb neurotic puppy that never slows it down to an 11 year old 130 lb grumpy goat ole Rottie and every size and age in between. And peep this'|'|'|'|..I will even snuggle with a kitty! I almost wasn't alive to tell you 'bout me, when I was a baby I was at a city shelter and I had a really really bad tummy ache, ... (Read More)they call it Parvo and it was trying to kill me, plus I was scheduled to be euth'|'|..euthabanized'|..some very bad word I can't spell. But my Foster Mommy saved me with only 5 minutes left in my hour glass, and no they do not do hour glasses in dog time, times 7. Whew that was close. Now that my tummy doesn't hurt anymore, I get to do all the normal puppy stuffs and gained weight all the way to 38 pounds. I might have a slight chewing on stuffs problem, but Foster Mom says that is not weird, all almost 5 month old puppies exercise their teefers. You hear that, I am not weird at all. I am a good boy too, I don't bite on people hands, just my toys and sometimes your stuffs, but I listen when you tell me 'NO, don't chew that'. Oh, I am 'upposed to tell you I am housebroken and know how to walk on a leash. Since I make such good buddies to other dogs, my Foster Mom says I will need to be adopted to a house with another dog or you can of course, adopt two at once, or 7, we really are like potato chips. What is your dog sleeping in people bed pawlicy? I sure hope it is a YES, because that is what I do now, we all pile on with Foster Mom, I like that. If you like friendly big dogs I am the best choice for you! Archie is available for adoption with Saving Grace Dog Rescue of San Antonio. The adoption fee is $150.00. An adoption application, home visit and adoption contract are all required. All dogs are spayed/neutered, up to date on vaccinations appropriate for their age, microchipped, and wormed for internal and external parasites. If you would like more information or an adoption application, please email us at sgdrsa@outlook.com. Please note that visual breed identification in rescue dogs is unreliable so for most of our dogs we are only GUESSING at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label. (Less)

Animal ID: SSRR17-0622-035Simba (male)

Rottweiler Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Simba is very Friendly. He has never met a stranger he doesn't like. He's always happy, silly and playful. He takes his toys (his mangled toys) to the door to go out and when you tell him drop it he will drop it and continue on outside. He mangles his toys but does not remove the squeakers. He likes to play keep away. You throw he fetches and then he keeps it from you. Simba is very affectionate and loves to snuggle on the couch with you. He's loyal to a fault as he is your shadow. He's head shy as if someone had hit him in the face or on the head but he will let you rub his head for hours on end. He loves kids of all ages but as ... (Read More)goofy as he is I'd say older children would be a better match. They say he is 7 or 8 years old but as playful as he is I'd say he is younger. He's good with other dogs. maybe not smaller dogs as he steps on them but he's definitely not good with cats. Simba is house trained and crate trained (under protest). We believe he was kept in too small of a crate as he had wounds on his feet that have since healed. If you put treats in the back of the crate he will go in and be still for a little bit and then start barking to get out. He has some obedience training which would not take too much to reinforce it. Simba is just a silly goofball that thinks cats are playthings. He's very food oriented and he seems to have a high prey drive. He loves his treats and will sit, roll over, lay down, and stay on command so far. (Less)

Animal ID: SSRR17-0101-001Bella (female)

Rottweiler    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Beautiful Bella is approximately 5 years old, crate trained, house broken, and heartworm negative! This doll was surrendered by her owner due a hectic travel schedule. She is now living in a foster home with three children - ages 4, 3, and 19 months as well as two cats. She is loving and patient with all the kids, but especially attached to the 4-year-old boy. She stays near the kids but when play gets too rowdy, she removes herself to a quieter part of the house/yard. Although her foster mom taught her to not jump on the furniture, Ms. Bella patiently waits for the kids to invite her up for snuggle time - such a smart girl! She is at ... (Read More)complete peace when getting belly rubs and adores human affection. So far, Bella has liked everyone she's met, but she is particularly fond of her foster dad and men in general. This girl is a social butterfly whether at family parties or at the vet. Bella's favorite toy is a partially deflated basketball and will play tug-of-war and fetch any time. She does the rottie rumble when happy - which is not a growl and shows no signs of aggression or resource guarding with any humans. The cats only pique her interest when the kids play or hold them. She is responsive to voice commands to redirect her from the felines and has never chased either one. This sweet girl doesn't live with dogs now, but has previously. We firmly believe with proper, slow introductions, she would enjoy other well-mannered dogs. Visiting small dogs accidentally entered the yard where Bella was playing, she was curious but not aggressive and did not even move toward them. Two small dogs bark at her through a neighbor's fence and she completely ignores them. Currently, Ms. Bella is working on her bikini body. We know keeping these big dogs leaner improves their health and quality of life so her foster family is diligent about getting those extra lbs. off. It appears she previously fed from the table and/or stove so using a crate during dinner time helps curb that temptation to beg, plus she loves being in her crate for some chill time. But when the kids drop crumbs, she's better than a Hoover at cleaning up. Bella currently is working on her desire to dart out the front door when it's opened and walk well on a leash. It appears that she may have spent a significant amount of time alone so she's learning all the rules and loves to please her humans. She does get nervous during storms and if anyone raises their voice. Seriously, what is not to love about this beauty? Please contact us if you'd like to learn more. (Less)

Bruno is a sweet, loving, loyal dog who is wonderful with my two young children (5 & 8 years old), all ocelot friends, and two other dogs (lab mix and min-pin mix). He is not the alpha dog in the house, the lab is. We used to have a cat, who he was interested in, but never hurt. He can be protective, but is also scared of thunder and vacuum cleaners. Health: Neutered, Heartworm Positive

Hi. My name is Rocky! I know I don't look anything like the guy in the movie and to be truthful, I'm a bit relieved! I may not be as big as what you expected, but please don't count me out! My foster mom says I'm a svelte version of a rottie, whatever that means. Human funny words. I'm a lean 55 pounds with a big heart and I have a boy-ish face with the sweetest eyes, if I do say so myself. My foster mom says they named me Rocky because I fought hard to survive and I can hold my own when I play with larger dogs. And, just so you know, I'm calm, curious, courageous, smart, and a great companion! I'm just the right size for someone that is ... (Read More)special just like me! Before landing with my foster mom and my crew, I was in a very scary place called a shelter and humans kept passing by me. Luckily, these awesome humans picked me up, and took me to a land called Texas. My pack made me feel welcomed and they thought it was funny that I would keep my distance from the human initially. See, I survived by being cautious and watching my environment. Turns out my foster mom gave me food, and treats, and toys, and a nice dog bed! An actual bed for me!! She is real proud that I learned to go potty outside in 2 days. She always tells me I am a sweet boy. I keep real still for her when she changes my collar or puts on the leash. I don't mind if she gets close to my food and I am gentle when I take treats. I can even eat off a spoon. I try to be a gentleman at all times! I give her kisses from time to time (can't over do it or she'll never stop asking) and I like to cuddle with her. Besides my step-sister, I have 2 step-brothers. Although I'm not bossy, I do like to start the fun! I chase them and they chase me and we have fun wrestling. I may be the smallest but I win a lot cuz I am fast and nimble! Oh, and don't tell my my foster mom but we also like to chase squirrels. And sometimes, when I feel really silly, I jump up and down like a goat and my human laughs and plays with me too! And guess what??? I figured out the treat toys faster than my pack but I don't bother them when I finish. I know how to mind my own business. My foster mom says because of my sensitivity, I would do best in a calm environment and if children are around, they should be older and patient. My foster mom has pictures and videos of me in case you want to see more of me. And you can contact her anytime and I will help her with any questions you have about me! I am really looking forward to being someone's forever and ever and ever and ever companion! (Less)

(Read More)champion, but is still so gentle when he plays. He loves going on small adventures, but gets tired after a while and is a homebody at heart. Solo doesn't get into mischief when left alone in the house. He's fully housebroken, and can sit, shake, and lay down. He does great in a crate although, he would rather be near you! He's an amazing pillow and a world class foot warmer. He does snore, but looks really cute doing it!! He loves car rides, and loves going to visit the vet and groomers. Solo would do best in a home either as the only dog, or with another female dog. Big or small family, kids or none, he isn't too picky...as long as he has at least one person around to love fiercely...and that's the thing he is best at!!!! (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-04-14-00133Cameron (male)

Rottweiler Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Needs to be Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Heartworm Positive

Posted 4/14/17, and pictures taken 3/31/17. Cameron was one of five dogs at the Smith County, TX Shelter on 3/28/17 that needed to leave that day. Another rescue was going to take him, but could not take another heartworm positive dog, so I tagged him, since one of my senior dogs passed away. He has joined my yard dogs, and follows me everywhere. He does not like being in a crate or riding in a vehicle, but I'm working with him on those and he is getting much better with both. He looks like a teddy bear in the face. He has a slight dominant personality, but is very trainable, since he is eager to please his person. He has barked at our ... (Read More)cats, so I would not recommend him with cats, and he is good with children and adults. He was put on Doxycycline and Prednisone for a month, which he started on 4/10/17. He can stay on prevention now or have heartworm treatment. Ivomec can be used twice a month for about 6 months to kill the heartworms, and I have a page of instructions on how to use the Ivomec. Cameron was picked up on Hwy 135 on 1/21/17 weighing 34 pounds, and estimated to be 2 years old. He now weighs 53.6 pounds. $80 adoption fee. Anyone interested in adopting him, please e-mail me at TMSGriffith@aol.com. (Less)

They play with her daily. With consistent training and socialization, Bridget will grow to be a wonderful family companion. But, she will need someone who can commit to and follow through on both. **PLEASE NOTE: Young puppies are always lovable, but they require a lot of attention, effort, exercise, good nutrition, ... Rottweiler Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Not Good with Cats
Personality: Very High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Do you like the song 'Girls Just Wanna Have Fun?' Well then, you have found your 'fun girl' '|meet our little Rebel! This Rottweiler-Boxer mix is not only strikingly beautiful, she is full of life and love. Rescued from a kill shelter on her last day to live, Rebel's resume did not include any social skills at all; nor did she know how to act around other dogs. She arrived at her foster home as a wild child, pretty much untamed, but sweet as she could be; thus, she earned her name, Rebel, which means 'wild spirit but a loving heart.' Rebel has now been professionally trained to be calm and play nice with other dogs. In the past, she ... (Read More)wanted to play; however, she has now learned there's a better way to make doggy friends than approaching them like a linebacker. Rebel's trainer uses only positive reinforcement through communication and praise; there is no punishment or use of correction collars. The lucky adopter selected for Rebel will be someone who will continue these very effective training methods. She's silly; she's sassy; and she will make you laugh. This little girl adores people, and she will win your heart in a matter of minutes. She loves children, especially if they have boundless energy to play with her. She thinks toys are one of the world's best creations, and loves to chase a ball, running a few extra laps before she brings it back '|.Isn't that how you're supposed to play ball?? When Rebel is not playing, this love bug wants to cuddle, while staring into your eyes for reassurance that you are happy with her. Rebel is approximately 1 %BD years old and weighs 45 lbs.; she is housebroken and crate trained. She is also highly intelligent-- there is no limit to her ability to learn new things. Rebel wants her very own family who will love and protect her. If you're looking for unconditional love, along with a best buddy to hang out with, Rebel is your perfect match. (Less)

Adorable, affectionate, amazing, athletic, awesome, best friend, buddy, calming, companion, cuddler, determined, fantastic, funny, gentle, handsome, happy, hugger, incredible, loyal, lovable, outgoing, personality plus, playful, protective, rockstar, smiling, silly, smart, snuggler, special, strong, survivor, sweet, talkative, therapeutic, wants to please, wonderful....Meet WOLF!! It's truly amazing that Wolf has turned out to be such a great dog after what he has endured. His owner ran over his front (left) leg, breaking all bones in his foot and lower leg, and never took him to a veterinarian; instead, he was allowed to suffer in what ... (Read More)must have been horrific pain for several weeks. The bones had fused in the wrong positions and he had to drag his useless foot/leg when he walked, resulting in calluses and open wounds. Finally, when the owner realized Wolf's condition was not going to improve, he was dumped at a kill shelter. Wolf's sweet nature impressed the shelter staff and volunteers and they reached out to try to get him saved. SSRR took Wolf into rescue and immediately sought vet care; unfortunately his leg was too damaged to be saved and had to be amputated. Wolf has made a great recovery. He lives in a foster home with four other Rottweilers and LOVES to run and play. He is always happy and everyone who meets him falls in love with him. It is our hope that Wolf will be adopted by someone who could have him trained to become an animal assisted therapy dog, going to nursing homes and hospitals (especially hospitals for children as well as veterans); and/or, serving as a companion for a veteran. Wolf would definitely brighten anyone's day! Wolf is missing a leg, but he does not consider himself handicapped and neither should you.If you are looking for a truly special companion, this awesome guy exemplifies the statement 'Who Rescued Who?'     Say hello to Memphis! Memphis is approximately 4 years old and such a goofy dog! He is absolutely obsessed with his Kong toys and can entertain himself for hours if you let him! Memphis is the brother to Angel (also adopted through our rescue) and was surrendered by a retired military gentleman that could no longer care for them. Memphis is both house and crate trained, quiet, fully vaccinated, neutered, microchipped and heartworm negative so he is 100% ready to join a loving family! Our ... (Read More)adoption process begins with you meeting Memphis. Feel free to schedule a play date with him and your existing dog(s). After you fill out an application, we will verify your references and do a brief home inspection. If all goes well, we will deliver Memphis to you for a small adoption fee. You will also have the option to purchase a large wire kennel for an additional fee. We then ask that you sign our adoption contract. We will do a follow-up visit approximately two weeks to one month after the adoption to ensure that Memphis is adjusting well to his new home and that he is happy and healthy.
